Sunset BYOB Potluck Snacks Party Sails
Generally just three or so hours from start to finish. We have plenty of time to get out into the bay, watch the sun set and the lights come up in the city and still drink some wine and have a fun time!
Book a private sunset sail for just $300! Design your own charter for $150 per hour. There are frequent specials so just ask!
From exciting to relaxing - it's all there. Most people e-mail days later saying they are still talking about how much fun they had. It is very special to be out on the water in a wooden boat powered only by the wind!
Sailing is a basic human right!
Dress:
For sure wear clothes. Warm clothes. Even on the warmest days it is still chilly out on the water. Bring layers and something water and wind proof if you have it. Ski clothes are an excellent option. There is plenty of room down below to stow extra gear.
I have sailed all over the bay and if there is enough wind to sail then it will be chilly. Way better to bring more than you need than to not have enough.
Non-marking shoes if you have them!! Hats that won't blow off and gloves help a lot too!
The 'Head' aka Bathroom:
The head or bathroom aboard Feral is called 'The Bucket' as seen above. There are clean bathrooms in the marina. It's not a super long sail so you can probably hold it. But I've noticed that as soon as one person uses The Bucket lots of people get comfortable with it. (You can use the The BIG Bucket right over the side if you are comfortable with it...)
Feral is a 40ft double ended sloop. She has won many races in her life and many of those races were before my life started! She has a modern hull design (kind of) but is very traditional above the water line. So traditional in fact that the 'head' (marine toilet) is a porta-potty! Other than nav lights we will be using oil lamps just like the old days!
Everyone who wants to sail will get a chance. If you just want to sit back and watch that is fine too. There isn't anything like the feel of the tiller in your hand while the boat charges smoothly through the waves! Plus you can pull on the strings and all that too....
I am a professional Captain. Check my Trip Advisor reviews from the past few years. I've been taking folks out sailing for years in all kinds of conditions and on all kinds of boats. I'll make sure you stay safe and have a great time!
Life jackets are provided but bring your warm clothes!
You may have sailed on the bay before but in case you haven't it can get COLD! If you are dressed for it you will have a blast. If you aren't then you will just be cold and damp. Wear ski clothes if you don't have sailing gear. There is plenty of room down below to stow gear you don't want to wear. Better to have it and not wear it than to not have the option!
Upcoming SunSet Party / BYOB sails are posted on my FaceBook page!
Check out pictures of recent sails here too. You don't have to have an account to view all the pictures.
Good Foods to Bring and Share!
Remember to bring things to share with your fellow sailors! Even if you just had dinner it is nice to snack a bit with everyone together before we sail out.
Think of riding in the car on a road trip. Salad is great but it is hard to pass around and share. Great things to bring include sushi, brownies, cookies, the traditional cheese and crackers, deli meats, finger sandwiches, berries and fruit, brownies, cookies and brownies and cookies.
Things NOT to bring include olives and pickles. For reals - very bad for the boat.
Did I mention brownies and cookies are good to bring?
Drinks
Bring these too! Beer is good but has a lot of volume which means more bucket use. Wine is easier and somehow goes with the whole sailing thing. Some folks bring cocktails and others juice and sparkling water.
Again, think of something that is fun and nice to pass around :)
I have plastic wine glasses and a serving tray, cutting board etc.

Prices:
At first it was free! Hey - I love to sail so why not go out with friends and soon-to-be friends? But boats are NOT free so I started asking for donations. Now my only job is taking people sailing! Cool job eh? But no matter how cool it is and how much fun people have I still have to pay for insurance, bottom paint, cell phone etc with real money. They just won't trade me insurance for day sails!! Go figure. So now I charge actual prices that represent what it actually costs with enough left over to do things like buy shoes and food lol.
The Sunset / Evening Sails are $60 per person. Day Sails are based on $100 per hour for the boat plus me - a bargain! E-mail me for America's Cup and Fleet Week sail prices.
I will work with anyone who want to go sailing! If you want to go sailing there is way you can do it!!
America's Cup Tours and Fleet Week Sails
The best way to see the race boats is from a boat! Sailing can be an elitist sport but that doesn't mean it has to be that way for you! Sailing can also be a crazy Capt Ron type lifestyle and it doesn't have to be that either :)
We sail out across the bay and around Alcatraz to the race 'box'. There are a LOT of boats out on these days and it is always exciting. But we stay safe which might mean a little less excitement lol!
Map of the marina is at the bottom of this page.
We meet on the bridge to 'E' Dock / Berths at 6:30pm!
